Apple Island Resort Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is Apple Island Resort open all year?
A. The Campground is open from May 1 until October 20 each year. Due to permitting, this will not change. The Golf Course is open May 5 to October 15. The Marina and General Store are open May 15 to October 15.
Q. May we be at a specific campsite or next to another camper of our choice?
A. Because Apple Island rents according to rig size, we cannot guarantee a specific campsite. If options are available, we always try to accommodate our campers.
Q. What campsite are we on?
A.Campsite numbers will be given when you arrive at Apple Island Resort. It is not possible to assign a specific campsite until you arrive.
Q. Is there shade?
A. There is shade on some campsites, but Apple Island Resort is mostly open area.
Q. Do you have campsites close to the swimming pool and community center?
A. Most campsites are a fair walking distance away, with the exception of a few water & electric sites.
Q. How many people can stay on our campsite at a time?
A. All site rates are for two (2) adults and two (2) children. There is a maximum of six (6) people per campsite with a maximum of four (4) adults. The Extra Occupant Fee for additional overnight guests is $7.50+tax per day per guest. The Extra Occupant Fee is not applicable on campsites rented seasonally.
Q.When can we check-in?
A. Check-In and Check-Out times are as follows:
Campsite or Tent Site...check-in is 2:00pm & check-out is 12:00 noon
Rental Cottage or Cabin...check-in is 3:00pm & check-out is 11:00am. This gives us time to clean the rental unit just for you.
Q. May we have visitors, and do they have to pay?
A. You may have day visitors. The Day Visitor Fee is $5.50+tax per day per visitor for those 4 years of age and older. Visiting hours are 9:00am to 10:00pm. All visitors must be accompanied to the pool and community center by a registered camper.
Q. Is my deposit refundable if I cancel my reservation?
A. Because of the increasing popularity of Apple Island Resort, deposits are non-refundable. Holidays for campsites, tent sites, cabins, and cottages require a three (3) night minimum deposit, which is non-refundable.
Q. May we put a tent on our campsite?
A. No tents permitted on campsites, cabin sites, or cottage sites. If available, tenters may camp in our designated tenting area and may have one (1) large or two (2) small tents on a campsite. Large Tent = 13' x 10' (sleeps 6). Small Tent = 8' x 7' (sleeps 3).
Q. Can we put up a canopy on our site?
A. One canopy, with or without screen sides, is permitted. Canopies may not exceed 12' wide x 12' long x 8' high.
Q. May we bring pets?
A. Pets are allowed at campsites, but they are not permitted in the cabins, cottage rentals (unless otherwise designated), recreational areas, or any common building at the resort. We limit the number of dogs to two (2). Pets must be kept on a leash at all times when outside and may not be left unattended. No temporary fencing permitted. Dog breeds or mixed breeds commonly known to be of an aggressive nature (including, but not limited to, Pit Bulls, Chows, Rottweilers, German Shephards, & Doberman Pinschers) are not permitted.
Q. May we have a golf cart?
A. Yes, you may, providing you follow the Golf Cart Regulations. Apple Carts, as we like to call them, can be rented at the Resort Office.
Q. May we swim in the lake?
A. We do not have a swimming beach; however, we do have a heated pool. The closest swimming beach is one (1) mile south at Sand Bar State Park.
Q. Do you have storage at Apple Island Resort?
A. Yes. We have an area to store boats, trailers, and RVs. There is a fee depending on the length of time storage is needed.
Q. Is there a place to launch my boat?
A. Yes. Apple Island Marina has a launch area and an area to park your trailer. Note: Sailboats 30' and longer cannot launch from our marina; however, they can stay on one of our moorings.
Q. Do you have boat docks available?
A. Yes. Camping guests may dock their boats at the Apple Island Marina during their stay if space is available (fees apply). Renters of dockage will need to provide proof of insurance for their boat.
Q. Is a fishing license required to fish on the lake and rivers?
A. A fishing license is required for everyone 15 years old and older. A Vermont fishing license can be purchased online at http://www.vtfishandwildlife.com/licenses_and_lotteries. Licenses may be purchased in person at the South Hero Town Clerk's office or Keeler's Bay Variety.
Q. What is required in order to rent a boat?
A. To rent a boat at Apple Island Marina, you must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and credit card. Boat operators born after 1/1/74 must have completed the Boater Safety Course. The boat operator must have experience.
Q. How early should we check in if we rent a boat?
A. You should be at the marina at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.
Q. If we rent a boat from the marina, what is the cruising area?
A. Pontoon boats, row boats, canoes and kayaks are allowed to travel from the causeway to the north end of Savage Island. Peddle boats must remain within view of the boat house.
Q. How many passengers can there be on a rental boat?
A. Pontoon boats accommodate 11 to 13 passengers and the row boats accommodate 3 to 4 passengers.
Q. If I rent a boat, how much fuel will I use?
A. How much fuel is used depends on the speed at which the boat is driven and how far it is taken. At average speed and cruise area, pontoon boats may use 6 to 8 gallons per day.
